A Natural Swimming Pool consists of three separate areas: a swimming area, a constructed wetland, a Bio-Mechanical Filtration area. The three areas can be adjoining and flowing into each other, or totally separate and connected by pipes. A pump circulates the water through the three different areas. It is advisable for the areas to be close to each other, resulting in low energy loss.
A Constructed Wetland is an insulated pool in which water flows through the rhezosphere of water plants, planted in various types of gravel. The water flows in sub surface flow (no visible water). Pro-Biotic Bacteria colonizes the rhizosphere reducing the organic matter in the water. The basic elements created by the micro-organisms are then used, absorbed or volatilized by a diverse range of water plants.
For additional information about Constructed Wetlands, please read on the internet site of our sister company: Ayala Water and Ecology and in articles on this site.

The Constructed Wetland is an amazingly beautiful garden feature, especially in the summer.

The Filtration Area consists of Bio-Mechanical filters imported from OASE (a "living water" company in Germany). There are several types of filters which suit various requirements. The different types of filters are fitted into similar containers called Modules. There are five main types of Modules:
The combination of Modules depends on the size of the swimming pool and it's uniqueness (water temperature, swimmers' load, external temperatures, sun exposure etc.). The filters are gravity fed. The system is recessed into the ground and made level to the water level of the swimming area. Usually, the Filtration Area is built under a deck beside the swimming area. For additional information about the filters, check the following link Proficlear.

In addition to the Bio-Mechanical filters, an Ultra Violet (UV) light is installed. The UV destroys everything alive such as bacteria and single cell Algae. The UV light sterilizes the water killing pathogenic bacteria alongside Pro-Biotic bacteria which is essential for an ecologically balanced system. In order to charge the water with life after passing through the UV light, we make it a point to pass the water flowing out of the UV system through the Constructed Wetland before returning it to the Swimming Area. For more information about the UV light check the following link: BITRON-C UV lamps.
The pump offered by Ofra Hydros is a submerged pump which doesn’t produce any poisonous gas and is totally silent. The pump has a very low energy consumption which substantially lowers running costs. For example, for a circulation of 16 cubic meter water per hour, the power consumption of the pump is 170 Watt. The pump is situated inside Module M1.
